With the support of Argyle Fine Art, Halifax, an exhibition of Mark Brennan’s work is featured at the J. Franklin Wright Gallery, Port Hawkesbury.
Mark Brennan is a professional, gallery-represented, Canadian landscape painter, nature sound recordist and film maker. He has worked in many of the Canada’s most wild areas, including Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador, Alberta, British Columbia, the Gaspe area of Quebec and Algonquin Park in Ontario.
Primarily known for his visual art, depicting the rugged landscapes of Canada, Brennan has expanded into the world of sound, something that has been a natural progression to deepen his understanding of the human relationship to nature. Venturing into remaining wilderness to document and experience the soundscape is something Brennan has taken great pleasure in, not only has it raised his own awareness but it has also deepened his personal journey.
“My art is derived from a philosophy that to truly represent something in an art form we must become totally immersed in our subject, wild Nature,” says Brennan.
Mark travels extensively into his motif, the Canadian Landscape. From this total immersion comes an emotional response, which is expressed through his work.
“I see the landscape as something pure, containing age old rhythms and patterns, and with each painting I seek this ebb and flow of nature that holds us all together, to form our connection to all things wild.”
The Exhibition runs until May 1. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday 4-9pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm.
