Dawn and Margie Beaton stepped into the musical life with dancing lessons at their Grandmother’s knee. By age five they were integrating Celtic fiddle into their repertoire. Award winning performers, over the intervening years they have appeared at concerts, ceilidhs, and festivals, both internationally and at home in Cape Breton. With the regular addition of step dance during a performance and a contemporary approach towards traditional Gaelic music, the Beaton sisters put their distinctive brand on the music they play.
Kenneth MacKenzie is a piper and fiddler from Mabou. He grew up in a Gaelic-speaking household and the Gaelic culture has been an integral part of his life from the early years. Having studied the pipes with Scott MacAulay at the College of Piping in Summerside, in Scotland, and at the Gaelic College over the years, his music is becoming well-known for its irresistible drive and lively, traditional feel.
Jason Roach, from Cheticamp, is one of the most impressive piano players you will ever hear. With a style all his own, and an unparalleled intensity on the keys, he’s a driving force in bands Sprag Session, Còig, and the Beaton Sisters band, and often plays in smaller combinations with fiddlers Colin Grant, Chrissy Crowley and Dawn & Margie Beaton.
