New Dawn Enterprises, in partnership with Singing Storytellers, are delighted to announce the season opener of IDEAS: Powered by Passion.
Join Yvette Rogers, Outreach Coordinator for the Celtic Colours International Festival, as she shares her passion for the creative economy and its potential for community renewal. As an actor, dancer, singer and songwriter, Yvette will invite us to explore a new path forward where art and culture are an integral part of our community’s development.
Opening the evening will be Donovan Shirt. As a young Aboriginal MC from Frog Lake Cree Nation in Alberta, he uses music and lyrics to cross cultural and socioeconomic lines and bring light to issues affecting young people today. His talk, “The Impact of Music”, will explore how his passion for music helped him as a homeless youth in Edmonton.
Host, Mike McInnis, will carry this exciting evening. We’ll hear music from William (Loppy) Herney and Mary Lee Dennis as well as presentations by Dr. Tanya Brann-Barrett and Brittany Erickson. A powerful line-up for the 6th Season Opener!
The event will take place in the chapel of the convent at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation (former Holy Angels High School), 37 Nepean St., Sydney. Please bring a friend, a smile, and your favourite mug to fill with complimentary organic, fair trade coffee or tea. We’ll also continue the juicy dialogue in the chapel so plan to have your evening free!
