A new season of Ideas: Powered by Passion kicks off September 24th at 7:00 PM, at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation.
Continuing a tradition of invigorating ideas, insightful narratives and spirited community dialogue, Ideas is partnering with the Lumière Arts Festival Association to present an evening inspired by the influence of art on our creative acts, and community actions.
Heading into its fifth year, Lumière is a free annual art-at-night event that fills the streets of Downtown Sydney with contemporary art viewed by a thrilled and captivated audience of thousands.

“One of the most inspiring outcomes of Lumière is how it brings to life downtown spaces through the curation of contemporary art,” says Alison Uhma, Lumière board member and Volunteer Coordinator. “Arts and culture are foundational to the health of communities.”
The evening offers insight into the impact and significance of Lumière. In the spirit of Lumière, a discussion will be facilitated that brings together some of the community’s most relevant and inspiring minds to talk arts, culture, and social change. The panel discussion, focused on the arts and how social change can manifest through creative acts, will be moderated by cultural observer, and CBC Mainstreet host Wendy Bergfeldt. The panel features intelligent, talented, and community minded folk Joella Foulds, Nelson MacDonald, Sheila Christie, Kate Krug, and Wesley J. Colford.
Multidisciplinary artists Nicole Dixon and Julien Strasfeld will speak about their Lumière project Polar Opposites. Their work in this year’s festival combines juxtaposed time-lapsed photography of Dawson City, Yukon’s aurora borealis, with found and original recordings of the natural and man-made world.
An entertainment portion of the evening will celebrate the emergence of gendered selves in defiance of traditional expectations. Lumière Board Chair, and Marketing Coordinator, Alyce MacLean will host the evening.
