The Abbass Collection at the Beaton Institute represents a rare opportunity to study the history of Cape Breton through photography. The collection consists of over 250,000 negatives. The Studio began in 1946 and chronicled all aspects of life in Cape Breton ever since. The photos on display represent a broad spectrum of Cape Breton history and show celebrity visits, news stories, old building, Christmas scenes, etc. The exhibit also includes a collection of camera and photography paraphernalia that spans from the early age of photography to the present. The exhibit is presented in partnership with the Beaton Institute, the Old Sydney Society and the Abbass family.
