Casino Nova Scotia is thrilled to announce the jury for the Casino Nova Scotia Artist in Residence program. The jury will be led by Dartmouth-based music sensation Joel Plaskett.
“I was happy to be asked to help judge the Artist in Residence program applicants. There is so much great music in Nova Scotia that I don’t always get to hear, and this helps bring me up to speed. The Artist in Residence program provides a great opportunity for a young artist or band to really focus on their music and to accelerate their development,” said Plaskett.
“We thought the Artist in Residence program would be well-received, but I don’t think we were entirely prepared for the buzz this program is generating!” says a beaming Helen MacMillan, Regional Vice President and General Manger of Casino Nova Scotia. “Everyone we speak with recognizes how transformational the Artist in Residence program will be for the successful candidate. Casino Nova Scotia has been a long-time supporter of the music industry. We love the music from this region and feel so lucky to live in a province with such a rich pool of talent. This program highlights our community leadership and support beyond what our guests, employees, and public might expect.”
Casino Nova Scotia worked with Music Nova Scotia, program administrator, to recruit music industry leaders from across the province to form the jury that will select the Artist in Residence. The chosen jurors bring a wide range of expertise to the selection process. Helen MacMillan and Joel Plaskett are joined by Louis Thomas – President and owner of Sonic Entertainment Group (SEG), and Sheri Jones – President and founder of Jones & Co. Artist Management.
Applications closed on April 30. The next phase of the evaluation process includes an interview for the shortlisted candidates, a fan vote, and a live performance. The finalists showcase takes place at Casino Nova Scotia in Halifax on June 6. Admission is free. Must be 19+.
