If Cape Bretoners know any youth or young professional with outstanding accomplishments or contributions to the local community, JCI Cape Breton wants to know.
The organization is accepting nominations for their fourth annual HYPE Awards, to be held at a gala celebration in November. HYPE, short for “Honouring Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs,” seeks to celebrate local citizens between the ages of 18 and 39 who have excelled in the four key areas identified by Junior Chamber International.
The four awards corresponding to JCI’s “areas of opportunity” are Excellence in Business Development, Excellence in Individual Development, Excellence in Community Development and Excellence in International Development.
In a JCI media release, chair of the HYPE Awards committee Lucy Wintermans encouraged community members to help identify deserving young community members. “We know there are many exceptional young leaders in the area.”
The online nomination process includes questions for nominators about why their chosen individual should be considered, and what how their nominee exemplified the JCI creed “That service to humanity is the best work of life.” Nominators should also supply supporting documents such as a resume and letters of reference for their candidate to be properly considered.
The HYPE Awards gala marks one of JCI Cape Breton’s biggest annual undertakings. Mark Sparrow, president of JCI Cape Breton, emphasized the event’s importance for area youth. “Each year, the HYPE Awards brings amazing young people to the forefront and recognizes their achievements,” he said. “It’s also a great networking event to bring so many young leaders from across all sectors together under one roof for an evening with our areas business and community leaders.”
The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 11. In addition to seeking nominations, there are sponsorship opportunities available for individuals, organizations and businesses interested in supporting HYPE. For more information, visit jcicapebreton.com or phone (902) 539-7635.
