Children’s Theatre & Story Session – Fairytale Theatre and Jeff Ward of Membertou Heritage Park will delight the young and young at heart with a twenty-minute play and Jeff’s rendition of the Mi’kmaq Story of the Giant Beavers.

Official Proclamation of CBRM’s Storytelling Day: All welcome to attend the Official Proclamation of CBRM’s Storytelling Day in conjunction with World Storytelling Day to be read by a representative of CBRM. Stephen Augustine to share the Mi’kmaq Creation Story.

Book Launch of “Great Cape Breton Storytelling” with Ronald Caplan: Join in the launch of Breton Books’ “Great Cape Breton Storytelling”, a digital book celebrating the storytelling tradition of Cape Breton Island.

Film screening: “the enemy A PARTISAN HYMNBOOK” Post-punk guitarist Massimo Zamboni uncovers his family’s past, tragically marred by a gunshot in 1944. This is a music documentary about the memory of the WWII Resistance in Italy.

Global Music Series
Expression through Gesture/Storytelling in Indian Classical Dance: In this lecture-demonstration, Meera Varghese will present the Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam. Originally performed by temple dancers, Bharatanatyam has a strong narrative component called abhinaya, in which stories from Hindu epics and scriptures are depicted through the dancer’s embodiment of gods and goddesses.

Celebration of Storytellers: In this event, an array of diverse storytellers takes the stage to share their stories. Hosted by CBC’s Steve Sutherland, this event includes a tribute to local storyteller Jim St. Clair and celebrates the launch of the DVD “Our Community in Stories”.

Film screening: “Zurkhaneh The House of Strength, Music and Martial Arts of Iran” This Federico Spinetti film captures voices, aspirations and contradictions of contemporary Iran in a journey across the nearly undocumented world of Zurkhaneh, the ancient Iranian gymnasia where traditional martial arts and music come together.

Story Slam: An open mike evening of story telling where anyone can be a storyteller. All welcome and it would be so great to see our community’s youth come out and share “your” stories! Our guest storyteller Robert Seven Crows Bourdon will be on hand to get the evening started.

Storytelling (Half Day) Workshop with Robert Seven Crows Bourdon: This is an opportunity to learn the craft of storytelling from Robert Seven Crows Bourdon, a member of the Kumik Elder’s Lodge at Indian and Northern Affairs, Ottawa. Robert has led storytelling workshops on many occasions and has helped to develop the art of storytelling in Canada through his workshops. Pre-registration required.
