The Cape Breton Regional Library is pleased to partner with Cape Breton University (CBU) on Global Musics – Local Connections. A full day of learning opportunities is being made available to the public at the McConnell Library on Thursday, October 6 from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. This event will include scholarly presentations, workshops, and panel discussions to which the public is welcome. This is part of an international symposium of the International Council of Traditional Music being hosted by CBU.
Global Musics – Local Connections is a multi-faceted outreach and research-creation project, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Headed by Dr. Marcia Ostashewski, Canada Research Chair in Communities and Cultures at CBU and Dr. Michael Frishkopf at the University of Alberta, this project brings together scholars and artist-practitioners, and is facilitated through community, industry, government and institutional partners and sponsors.
On Friday, October 7, as part of Local Connections, there will be two children’s workshops at the McConnell Library. At 10:30 AM there will be a presentation for teens by Judith Cohen on French language and culture. At 1:00 PM there will be a younger children’s event with Daya Madhur who will share her storytelling and music.

The Library offers many programs for children and adults. With this partnership with CBU, the Cape Breton community has an opportunity to share in research and knowledge about music from around the world. These are free events and are open to everyone.
