A celebration of the life of Harry Boardmore is being held at Cape Breton University (CBU) on June 15 at 7 pm in the Boardmore Playhouse.
The evening will be a fitting tribute to Harry Boardmore featuring excerpts from some of the best-known, challenging and entertaining productions staged under Harry’s direction. The evening will feature the Boardmore Theatre’s most well-known alumni. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Liz and Harry Boardmore Scholarship Fund.
“This evening will be an opportunity for all of us who knew Harry to remember the moments we were so lucky to have shared with him,” says Todd Hiscock, Director of the Boardmore Theatre. “There will be many laughs and likely many tears. We will come together to honour a man whose life inspired us all, and whose death grants us joyful reflection.”
Harry was an English professor at CBU, and had a true passion for theatre. He directed a remarkable 64 plays, always evoking a sense of family with every cast and crew. The Playhouse opened in 1979 and, in 1990, it was renamed the Boardmore Playhouse in honour of Elizabeth and Harry Boardmore who, for more than 25 years, dedicated themselves to the teaching and development of community theatre in Cape Breton.
A wealth of talent will take to the stage, including Bette MacDonald, Maynard Morrison, Gary Walsh, Peter Gillis and many others. General seating tickets are now available at the Cape Breton Curiosity Shop on Charlotte Street in Sydney and will also be available at the Boardmore Box Office beginning Monday, June 10. Tickets are $20. A reception will follow in The Pit Lounge.
The Harry and Elizabeth Boardmore Scholarship Fund was established to honour the memory of Liz and Harry Boardmore, who gave their time and energy to theatre arts in the local area and, in particular, to Cape Breton University’s Boardmore Playhouse. The goal is to assist students who are pursuing an education in theatre arts.
