CBRM’s Winterfest runs from February 10 – March 20
Winter is a fabulous time of year for outdoor physical activity. This year, we have lots of snow to play in and plenty of opportunities to get outside and play. You can always take your family to the closest hill for sledding, out into the yard to build snow forts and snow people or out onto a pond to do some skating. There are also lots of activities planned as part of CBRM’s Winter Festival.
This year, CBRM celebrates Winter Festival for the first time ever and there is a jam-packed schedule of (mostly outdoor) events to keep citizens busy during the dark, cold days of February and March. Community organizations throughout CBRM are presenting dozens of Winter Festival events. The celebrations start on Thursday, February 10 with the snow angel world record event that is being organized across the province by Recreation Nova Scotia as part of their Take the Roof Off Winter initiative. The fun continues till the end of March Break. Over the course of the festival, there will be free public skating at rinks, outdoor skating events, snowshoeing, indoor dances and loads more to keep folks hopping all winter long.
The community is encouraged to come out to as many events as possible, and discover winter fun in CBRM, and find where all the good spots are for winter activity. Discover the trails on the East Bay and Coxheath Hills, visit other local facilities such as the Two Rivers Wildlife Park and Mira Provincial Park; walk with the local Volksport Club, skate at our local facilities, including an outdoor skating spot. Try geocaching in Louisbourg or snowshoeing under the moonlight in Ben Eoin or coming to events at your local library. The day the festival ends is the day before Spring begins so the festival will truly be a fun way to enjoy the rest of the winter season.
A PDF of the full schedule is available for download and we’ve created a special purple sub-calendar for all of the winterfest activities on our events page. For more information on the CBRM Winter Festival, go to: http://www.cbrm.ns.ca/special-events.html, email the CBRM Recreation Department at email@example.com or phone 563-5510. Winter Festival booklets will soon be available at any office of the CBRM Recreation Department or any branch of the Cape Breton Regional Library. Until next time, I’m off to enjoy some outdoor winter fun!
