Cape Breton stage Company's Hit the Streets! 2009 in downtown Sydney
The ever-busy Cape Breton Stage Company will soon hit the streets of the CBRM with their Outdoor Theatre Festival. From August 4 to 7, four plays will be staged at 6:00pm in the parking lots of downtown Sydney.
Rachael Colford‘s play Wilkinson, Roberts, and Hodge will be staged together with Wesley Colford‘s Sitting School in the parking lot at 258 Charlotte Street, near ScotiaBank.
In the Post Office parking lot at 275 Charlotte, viewers will be treated to four plays, including Pickers Can’t be Choosers by Thomas Colford, Depression, Pirates, Sandwiches, and a Doctor” by Clinton Morrison, Pass the Chips by Jonathan Smith, and Television by Justin Ling.
The lot at 307 Charlotte Street near London Jewelers will feature Promicide by Nicole MacDougall and Too Too Sullied by Wesley Colford. In Wentworth Park at the Charlotte Street end, Kristen Woodford‘s Marie and the Pirates will be presented.
Each play’s admission price is pay-what-you-can. Proceeds will be donated to Cape Breton Transition House an organization that provides shelter, support and advocacy to women and children who experience domestic violence. To learn more about Transition House, visit thans.ca
While in the thick of their summer schedule, the Stage Company is already planning for the fall. The July 29 deadline is quickly approaching for writers to submit scripts for their October production “Tales from the Bottom of the Well.” Anything that is creepy, unsettling, spooky, supernatural, or otherwise fitting a “scary” theme is welcome. Scripts should be for shorter plays of about 15 to 25 minutes in length, with a limited number of characters and simple set needs. Entries need only be a “working copy”, and can be revised and finalized afterwards.
