JP Cormier leads all star line up at Louisbourg Playhouse fundraiser Sunday, June 13

Anyone interested in supporting small town arts and entertainment venues can help sustain one of our island’s most unique haunts by attending the Louisbourg Playhouse’s fund raising concert Sunday, June 13. With acclaimed singer songwriter and guitarist JP Cormier on duty as emcee and performer, the cause will also be supported by local acts Jason Kempt, Jennifer Roland, Erin Martell, Troy Young, Lyndon MacKenzie, Shawn MacDonald, and Cindy Allen.

Built in 1993 for a film set, the playhouse was modeled after the Shakespearean Globe Theatre. The venue is operated by the Louisbourg Playhouse Society, a registered non-profit organization. Over the years, the playhouse’s distinctive setting has hosted hundreds of performers performing for tourists and local residents alike, and has provided the local community with a unique venue to host local performances and events.

Bretton Pierre, a summer student employee at the playhouse, stressed the importance of the fundraiser in supporting the Playhouse’s activities. “It keeps the Cape Breton tradition alive here. Most of the performers we have here are from Cape Breton or nearby, and are very into the Cape Breton Style.” Pierre said that the fundraiser was a not-to-be-missed event. “There’s going to be a lot of good entertainment here, and it’s going to be a good time.”

The fundraiser is a prelude to a busy summer season of , theatre, comedy and dance at the Playhouse. The jam-packed schedule kicks off on June 27 and continues with a full schedule of events throughout the summer and into the fall.

Tickets for the June 13 concert are $35. In addition to the evening’s entertainment, there will be a silent auction, door prizes, light refreshments and bar service. Showtime is at 7:30om, and doors open at 6:00pm
