Hike the Highlands Festival – September 11 – 19
If your other car is a pair of boots be sure to head to the northern part of the island from September 11th – 20th for the 6th Annual Hike the Highlands festival. Hiking highlights include 24 guided treks in the world renowned highlands, workshops on topics such as Outdoor Nature Photography, Introduction to GPS, Nordic Walking and Trekking in Central and South America and entertainment like Theatre on the Hill’s production of Willy Russel’s comedy “Shirley Valentine” and nightly Celtic entertainment at The Thirsty Hiker Pub by Jerome Campbell & Stewart MacDonald, Buddy MacDonald, Cyril MacPhee and Cindy and Shelly Allen.
Hike the Highlands Festival has been recognized by Nova Scotia Dept. of Tourism, Culture & Heritage as a Nova Scotia Signature Festival & Event in 2009. This year’s festival features nine new guided hikes and four popular trails brought back from previous years such as Meat Cove Mountain, Cape St. Lawrence/Lowland Cove, Salmon Pools, and Red Island.
